Nurse Myra Bennett 1890-1990
Myra Maud Bennett (nee Grimsley) CM, MBE (April 1, 1890 – April 26, 1990) was born in London, England, and buried in Daniel’s Harbour, Newfoundland, Canada. Myra’s home was built in 1921 by Angus Bennett and was declared a Newfoundland Heritage structure in 1999. Heritage homes are recognized for their cultural and historical significance, and are protected from demolition or alteration. Myra’s home is significant because it served as the walk-in nursing clinic for over 200 miles of coastline. This clinic provided essential medical care to the residents of the coast, many of whom lived in isolated communities. The clinic was operational for over 50
